Comitti Workshops - 1888
“The Clock and Barometer Store” is a unique retail outlet created by Comitti of London, makers and distributors of the finest quality clocks and barometers for over 150 years.
The company is the United Kingdom’s first specialist retailer offering consumers a comprehensive collection of the finest quality hand made clocks and barometers. In addition to the Comitti collection of classic English designs, the company offers products made by the world’s most prestigious brands including Kieninger, Matthew Norman, Swiza, Dingens and Schneider. We also offer a selection of antique instruments, some of which originated from our own workshops.
The company remains a family business that was founded by Onorato Comitti, a skilled Italian instrument maker, who came to England in 1845. He sought a new future in the land that was enjoying unprecedented prosperity generated by the Industrial Revolution. He established his workshops in London in 1850 as a maker of barometers and other related instruments and in a very short time his beautiful products were gracing the homes of discerning customers. It was during the late Victorian period that the company diversified into clock making. Today the company is run by the grandsons of George Barker who married Louisa Comitti and took over the running of the company in the 1890s.
We take pride in the small part our company plays in maintaining the 350 year heritage of making fine clocks and barometers in England. Our objective is to offer consumers the opportunity to enjoy these beautiful and functional products that continue to evolve and are available in traditional and contemporary designs.
A collection of over 200 products can be viewed on this website or at our showroom. Visitors have the opportunity to view our workshops and learn more about the art and craft of making fine clocks and weather instruments. We welcome families and school parties by appointment.
All of the products we offer are available with an extended 2 year warranty. All the mechanical clocks are available with our unique Lifetime Product Support Service with cleaning and maintenance work undertaken on our premise by our own highly skilled technicians. We also offer a home delivery and set up service using our own vehicles and staff.
The company’s history means that we are uniquely placed to offer guidance for the repair and restoration of antique clocks and barometers. Movements, dials and cabinet work can all be restored to their original condition. Collection and delivery can also be organised. All the work undertaken is done in our own workshops and supported by a year's warranty. Please contact our service department for further information.
The aspiration of early clock and barometer makers was to create instruments that made it possible to better order and manage our lives. The importance and value attached to them is reflected in the superb craftsmanship employed in their decoration in the styles of each period of their evolution. Today fine clocks are valued for their functionality and as works of art that have a unique place in every home.
We hope that we will have the opportunity to be of service to you. The passing of time has a special significance for each of us and perhaps this is the reason that a gift of a fine timepiece is a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary or a milestone of achievement.
